Ever since bursting onto the scene in late 2023 with a showstopping Stone Island collab, the New Balance 991v2 has proved to be a winner for the Bostonian running brand and now, NB is placing the silhouette on the global stage with five, region-exclusive releases.

The 991v2 is the first update to the 991 in over 20 years, bringing about a more rotund toebox, redesigned midsole and general streamlined remodelling of the overall shape, also utilising New Balance’s FuelCell midsole technology to imbue the second generation silhouette with an elevated level of comfort.
Rather than the one-off general releases that have gone down a treat with New Balance heads so far, the upcoming slew of 991v2s takes cues from the success of the Paris-exclusive 990v6 and 997 that dropped last month with five, equally colourful makeups inspired by the cities of Baltimore, Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul, Melbourne and Paris.

The quintet of colourways follow the same design brief of black, waffle-like mesh, offset by varying shades of grey on the tabs, lining and midsole, with expressions of individualism realised on the plush suede uppers
Working with select retailers from across the globe, it is rumoured just 500 editions of each colourway will be available to the public, starting with the green pair inspired by the rolling hills found all across Europe dropping at Starcow Paris, followed by the pink version that will be stocked at Atmos’ Tokyo outpost.
Arriving in an orderly fashion, the remaining blue, red and yellow pairs will be releasing respectively at Social Status Baltimore, China’s New Balance “Grey” concept store, with the final drop spanning the regions of Seoul and Melbourne, where New Balance has chosen Casestudy and UP THERE to host the yellow iteration.
