In this week’s episode of ‘Luxury Fashion Meets Unassuming Normcore Design‘, Jacquemus is stepping away from revitalising Nike’s women’s department to release a ‘Frenchified’ take on one of Timberland’s most recognisable silhouettes.
Jacquemus’ debut Timberland collab proves the resurgence of moc-toe’d footwear is still very much alive - joining the likes of Louis Vuitton and as the latest high-end brand to incorporate the boat shoe into its own seasonal collections.
A perfect example of synergy, where Simon Porte Jacquemus leaves the ubiquitous 3-eye construction of Timberland’s boat shoe untouched, the model is instead given a new lease of life in the colour and detail departments.
Transforming a staple of prep and Americana culture into the Parisian-approved “La Bateau”, Jacquemus outfits Timberland’s boat shoe with “light yellow” leather uppers, also replacing the traditional rawhide laces with sporty rope versions that feature Jacquemus-branded aglets and charms to match the shoe’s gilt metal hardware.
The french brand leaves its mark once more on the shoe’s insole, alongside Timberland’s tree insignia, which also features in its rightful place on the lateral quarter.
The Timberland x Jacquemus “La Bateau” Boat Shoe drops in unisex sizing this Wednesday, April 23 via the Jacquemus website.
