ORIGINAL ARTICLE - 09/12/2024:
Louis Vuitton has officially revealed the long-overdue sequel to its 2003 collaboration with Takahashi Murakami.
Paving the way for future genre-bending partnerships with Supreme and Nike, SS03’s LV x Murakami project was a breath of fresh air for the brand and under the direction of Marc Jacobs, core fans and Sunday shoppers alike were exposed to a different side of Louis Vuitton, where signature house styles were reimagined with vibrant colourings and playful motifs such as the cherry blossom or camo “monoflage” prints.
Released during the peak of y2k celebrity culture, the Murakami collection was so well received that Louis Vuitton made pieces available for over 12 years, until the collection was discontinued in 2015.
Announcing the “re-edition” capsule through Instagram, LV posted a short clip showing Murakami’s childlike art style taking over its ubiquitous monogram logo. Apart from announcing the release date of January 1st, 2025, neither party shared any further information about what the collection will actually entail.
Thanks to leaks from @mattd74, we can expect re-editions of fan-favourite bags and accessories, including the Multicolore Monogram Speedy Bags and Character pieces, alongside fresh inputs on skate decks and the Virgil Abloh designed LV Trainer.
Expect more official information to surface in the coming weeks.
