Living up to its reputation for producing some of the chunkier-soled options on the market today, Sacai has refreshed its footwear offerings for Spring 2025, putting unconventional spins on traditional styles for both men and women.
Sacai’s knack for reworking the classics has long been a cornerstone of the brand’s ethos, championed by founder Chitose Abe with each seasonal collection, not forgetting Sacai’s regular collaborations with Nike and Carhartt WIP that allow for Abe’s genre-bending design language to get its flowers on the global stage.
For Spring 2025, Sacai challenges the unspoken rules of casual-leaning formal footwear, updating familiar upper shapes with bullish sole designs that add a solid few inches of elevation, regardless of the model.
While the multi-storey approach might fly under the radar on Sacai’s sandals or even its brogue penny loafers, the brand pushes the boundaries of reliable Vibram soling on styles like the Engineer and Chelsea boots, which are reworked even further to include a combination of fastenings or elasticated gussets that extend beyond the boot’s shaft.
Even the humble boat shoe isn’t safe from Sacai’s bold sole takeover, showing up twice in the menswear department amongst its Spring 2025 novelties.
The first iteration offers a more customary imagining that still features a wedge of Vibram rubber underfoot but retains model-specific detailing such as three upper eyelets and around-the-foot lacing.
The boat shoe is then adulterated into a fully-fledged boot, where Sacai works from the inside out, resulting in a layered design that makes room for the boat shoe’s defining padded collar to remain seen.
